About

Who Was Cledy Rumley?

Cledy Rumley was a woman of extraordinary strength, compassion, and resilience. A devoted mother, sister, and grandmother, and advocate for healing, she believed in the power of community and lifting others during their most challenging times. Her empathy and unwavering support left a profound impact on everyone she encountered. Cledy struggled with addiction from a young age. Despite her struggles, Cledy did not have the opportunity to overcome her challenges. She was born and raised in this community, and her story is a poignant reminder of the need for support and resources for those battling addiction.

Cledy’s life inspired her daughter, Lauren Metzler, Chief Operations Officer at Sauk Valley Voices of Recovery (SVVOR), to create Cledy’s House of Hope, a safe and supportive haven for women in recovery. The house reflects Cledy’s legacy of kindness, offering hope and healing to those in need.

Despite enduring the heartbreaking loss of her son, Tevin, to addiction, Cledy’s strength never wavered. Her determination to support others grew even more substantial, reinforcing her belief in the importance of safe spaces for recovery.

Cledy’s House of Hope will be staffed by compassionate individuals who embody her spirit of care and empathy. It will be filled with laughter, joy, and hope—hallmarks of Cledy’s vibrant personality.

The name Cledy carries special meaning:

  • Caring – Cledy was one of the most caring individuals you could meet. Her compassion extended not only to her loved ones but also to strangers. She had an incredible ability to make anyone feel seen and valued.

  • Laughter – Cledy’s laughter was unmistakable, a loud, raucous sound that could be heard from a mile away. It was infectious, filling any room with joy and lifting the spirits of those around her.

  • Empathy – She was one of the most empathetic women, always willing to help someone in need. Cledy would give the shirt off her back if it meant making someone else's day a little brighter.

  • The ‘D’ in Cledy’s name stands for ‘Día,’ the Spanish word for ‘Day.’ It reflects her Hispanic heritage and serves as a beautiful reminder to live life one day at a time—advice she imparted to others with love and wisdom.

  • Finally, the ‘Y’ in Cledy represents ‘Yourself.’ Cledy firmly believed in the power of self-belief. She was a constant source of encouragement, not only as a cheerleader for her children, grandchildren, and family but also for their friends and teammates. Her unwavering support inspired everyone around her to believe in their own abilities and strive for greatness.

Cledy’s House of Hope is a tribute to her life and values, ensuring her legacy continues through the women who find recovery within its walls.
